Project Concept - draft - please add/finish
Polyethylene pipes can be made of recycled content, but most commercial polyethylene, like most plastics ends up in landfills and oceans due to neglect after use. It takes several centuries to degrade, becoming an environmental blight. Project Name thinks about the life cycle and reuse of plastics through how the building blocks can have multiple life cycles. The gather-and-tie method allows us to think outside of conventional construction methods, in which material becomes waste after construction. Unlike recycling, which takes energy and effort to produce a new material, the gather-and-tie construction method allow the polyethylene pipes to be reused as is once the temporary structure is taken down. Flexible pipes can bend to transition from floor, wall, to ceiling, and its ability to be gathered and un-gathered creates opportunities to vary the thickness of the surface assembly. The level of privacy, light transmission and protection from the elements can be customized this way to satisfy different needs of the pavilion.
