Chat with mini:

10:12 PM Minyoung: i just read takas post
10:13 PM i think i do agree with her about keeping it as an out door library
10:15 PM me: you think people are going to take books out and read it there?>
Minyoung: well that was the initial idea
at lesat that's how i understood it
me: i didn;t know
10:16 PM but the book is not precious right?
its not like we are bringing them back to the library
we are recyling all of it
after the structure is taken down?
Minyoung: actually we were thinking we'd donate them to a library or something
or send it back to whoever lent it to us
10:17 PM me: its going to get wet
and torn
and being abused
its an outdoor environment
Minyoung: yeah true
me: i like the idea of taking a material in transit to being recycled
and use it for our structure
10:18 PM like just pause the process of recyling
Minyoung: can you post this to the blog then?
cuz if we are having this discussion, i think taka needs to see it too
10:23 PM anyways whatever we do with the books at the end of the season, either we return the books, donate the books, i liked the idea of having the books there for reading....because it kind of gives the structure a bit of a purpose and a fun twist
10:31 PM me: ken wants to use plastic as a material
i think it make sense for the outdoor part of it
Minyoung: hahaha
me: and it might be a good material to hold the books
10:32 PM think plaster on the outside, books inside skin
like insulation
i think the books shouldn't sit flat like a bookselves like the bow wow idea
10:33 PM ok ken and i will talk and post idea
Minyoung: yeah i dunno if you got this from any of our email exchanges but taka and i talked about how we'd be receiving more books and people might take the books they like as time goes by...and along with it the skin will change
10:35 PM me: o, ya i got the book change the environment idea
i like that
Minyoung: ok.
10:36 PM me: i thought it will be interesting to parrellel the recyling process
Minyoung: i was thinking of a modifying and pasting some shit together from mass carrier to make a story board
i really liked the graphics from mass carrier
and since the concept is a little similar i thought we could recycle some part of it
we need three 11x17 boards...one of them is for material and construction calc and shit
though
10:37 PM me: thats why i thought of the book as structure idea
recyluing is all about collecting
Minyoung: i see
me: and sorting and stuff
and the Collecting is big part to mass carrier
10:38 PM and if i would develop the book structure idea
i would collect books, and sort them according to binding strength, size of books
and other criterias
and we can make up different structure typology
with different types
Minyoung: i like using books as part of the structure
10:39 PM but i think it will need reinforcement
it will have to be a skin
me: and i like the idea that the final final structure is not determined
Minyoung: not a main structure
me: until we collect the books
i agree it might not be possible for the thing to just hold on its own
10:40 PM Minyoung: yeah i mean i think it can if it were indoors and we knew exactly what kind of books we'd be getting
me: ya
i think so too
its possble
Minyoung: since we don't know what kind of books we're getting nor are we sure the sizes are uniform...it's tricky
me: but a lot of work
Minyoung: yeah also a lot of work
10:41 PM me: i like that we come up with a cool plastic type structure
that hold books
basically rethinking a book shelves
structure
with recycled plastic
material
10:42 PM i like the interior is filled with books
Minyoung: yeah using plastic might be a good idea
me: so its softer inside
10:44 PM Minyoung: it'd be cool if we can tie it back to the whole postal service infrastructure concept somehow...that's why i suggested we use those bulk mail plastic totes...but they look too much like blocks and could be boring
10:46 PM anyways, i like a lot of our ideas we came up with so far
it's just a matter of sort of consolidating and streamline to a consistent theme
10:47 PM also it has to look fucking awesome
and has to be buildable
that's the hard part i think
